AdvantivIndustry's Smallest, Low Power HDMI Transmitter with Integrated Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) Support for Portable Electronics

The growing trend in video-enabled portable electronics—including digital video cameras, digital still cameras, portable media players, and cellular handsets—is toward a simple direct connection to TVs via HDMI.™ In 2008, the majority of the advanced TVs produced included front or side panel HDMI inputs for easy connection to portable devices. To support this configuration, ADI has developed the ADV7521NK, a very low power HDMI transmitter optimized to support HDTV formats up to 1080i. It supports both S/PDIF and 2-channel I2S® audio and can transmit stereo audio at 192 kHz. The S/PDIF can carry stereo LPCM audio or compressed audio including Dolby® Digital, DTS,® and THX.®

The ADV7521NK integrates CEC support on chip to reduce component count and ease design complexity—helping speed time to market and revenue for portable HD devices. The device also helps to simplify designs and reduce cost by incorporating features such as an I2C® master for EDID reading, a single 1.8 V power supply, and 5 V tolerance on I2C and hot plug detect pins. In addition to offering low power, small size, ease of use, and low cost, the ADV7521NK exceeds the demanding requirements of the advanced TV market for the absolute best image quality. Analog Devices offers data sheets, samples, evaluation kits, software driver reference codes, IBIS models, applications notes, and HDMI compliance pretest services to support the ADV7521NK.
