Involvement in the Industry

Analog Devices, Inc. engages with national, state and local regulatory bodies responsible for the areas where we operate and, through those groups, offer governments technical feedback on issues relevant to the semiconductor industry. We participate in industry associations such as the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), and the Semiconductor and Electronics Industry in the Philippines, Inc. (SEIPI), through which we engage with national, state and local regulatory bodies responsible for the areas where we operate and, through those groups offer governments technical feedback on issues relevant to the semiconductor industry.

SIA engages with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and federal lawmakers on a host of issues, including climate change. As a member, we have contributed to the proactive efforts to reduce emissions particularly from the use of fluorinated gases. This has contributed to the mitigation to the potential impacts of greenhouse gases.

Although the semiconductor industry contributes a very small percentage to total U.S. GHG emissions, SIA and its members have been proactively engaged in ongoing efforts to reduce these emissions. Additional information can be found on the SIA website.

In years past, Analog Devices, as a member SEIPI, participated in the review and development of new regulations such as the Philippines Clean Air Act, which resulted in the adaptation of new and logical emission standards for the semiconductor industry. In the Philippines, our recommendations regarding emission standards for emergency generators were included in the development of the Clean Air Act. In the United States, our collective efforts as members of the SIA successfully reduced our CO2 emissions from the use of fluorinated gases by more than 35% from 1995 levels. On a global scale, we contributed to the semiconductor industry’s reduction of fluorinated gases by more than 32% in absolute emissions, which is significantly more than the 10% goal set by the World Semiconductor Council.

In addition, Analog is an active in the Semiconductor Environmental Safety and Health Association (SESHA), an international organization recognized as the “premier Environmental Safety & Health association serving the global semiconductor and associated technology industries.” Through SESHA, we both learn and contribute to industry best practices.
