ANALOG DEVICES ADDS NEW HIGHLY INTEGRATED DEMODULATOR FOR BROADBAND COMMUNICATION DESIGNS TO ITS RF/MICROWAVE PRODUCT PORTFOLIO

- ADI’s ADRF6850 demodulator saves board space, reduces cost, and shortens design time with unparalleled integration and performance in a small package.

Norwood, MA (10/26/2010) - Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), a world-leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal processing applications and RF ICs (radio frequency integrated circuits), today introduced a new highly integrated demodulator for broadband applications, such as cellular base stations, satellite communications, point-to-point (PtP) radios and defense systems. ADI’s new ADRF6850 demodulator expands ADI’s RF/microwave product portfolio and offers the highest level of integration and functionality by combining five devices and three RF functions into one small-footprint, surface-mount chip.

Unlike discrete implementations that use a multi-chip approach, ADI’s single-chip ADRF6850 demodulator saves considerable board space, reduces cost, and simplifies development by integrating a 60 dB VGA (variable gain amplifier), a fractional-N PLL (phase locked loop) synthesizer with VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) and two baseband ADC drivers all in an 8 mm x 8 mm LFCSP package. A complete data sheet and samples are available at www.analog.com/adrf6850.

The ADRF6850 operates over a broad frequency range from 100 MHz to 1000 MHz and supports narrow band and wideband signal modes up to 250MHz. The device offers best-in-class RF performance with an input IP3 (third order intercept) of 22.5 dBm, P1dB (input compression point) of 12 dB and a noise figure of 11 dB. Furthermore, the ADRF6850 also supports the user selected SPI/I2C serial interface and is fully supported by the latest version of ADI’s popular PLL design tool, ADIsimPLL.

Availability, Pricing and Complementary Products

The ADRF6850 is in production now and is available for $7.50 per unit in 1,000-unit quantities. It is the companion device to ADI’s recently released ADRF6750 modulator.
