±15 kV ESD Protected, 3.3 V Single-Channel RS-232 Line Driver/Receiver
The ADM3101E is a high speed, single-channel RS-232/ITU-T V.28 transceiver interface device that operates from a single 3.3 V power supply. Low power consumption makes it ideal for battery-powered portable instruments.
The ADM3101E conforms to the EIA/TIA-232E and ITU-T V.28 specifications and operates at data rates up to 460 kbps.
All RS-232 (TOUT and RIN) and CMOS (TIN and ROUT) inputs and outputs are protected against electrostatic discharges (up to ±15 kV ESD protection).
This device is ideally suited for operation in electrically harsh environments, or where RS-232 cables are frequently being plugged/unplugged with the ±15 kV ESD protection of the I/O pins of the ADM3101E.
Four external 0.1 μF charge pump capacitors are used for the voltage doubler/inverter, permitting operation from a single 3.3 V supply.
The ADM3101E is available in both a 12-lead LFCSP and 16-lead QSOP, specified over the −40°C to +85°C temperature range.Applications
- General-purpose RS-232 data links
- Industrial/telecommunications diagnostics ports

The ezLINX™ iCoupler® Isolated Interface Development Environment provides developers with a cost-effective, plug and play method for evaluation eight physical layer, digitally-isolated communication standards (USB, RS-422, RS-485, RS-232, CAN, SPI, I2C, and LVDS). The Blackfin® ADSP-BF548 processor is used to run the uCLinux operating system and allows for easy customization through the open source hardware and software platform. Development time is significantly reduced for embedded designers and system architects who are designing and evaluating isolated communication standards. The interfaces on ezLINX use ADI's isolated transceivers with integrated iCoupler® and isoPower® digital isolator technology.
ADI has always placed the highest emphasis on delivering products that meet the maximum levels of quality and reliability. We achieve this by incorporating quality and reliability checks in every scope of product and process design, and in the manufacturing process as well. "Zero defects" for shipped products is always our goal.
