The ADAS3023 is a complete 16-bit successive approximation based analog-to-digital data acquisition system. This device is capable of simultaneously sampling up to 500 kSPS for two channels, 250 kSPS for four channels, 167 kSPS for six channels, and 125 kSPS for eight channels manufactured on the Analog Devices, Inc., proprietary iCMOS® high voltage industrial process technology.

The ADAS3023 integrates an 8-channel low leakage track and hold, a programmable gain instrumentation amplifier (PGIA) stage with a high common-mode rejection offering four differential input ranges, a precision low drift 4.096 V reference and buffer, and a 16-bit charge redistribution successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The ADAS3023 can resolve differential input ranges of up to ±20.48 V when using ±15 V supplies.

The ADAS3023 simplifies design challenges by eliminating signal buffering, level shifting, amplification and attenuation, common-mode rejection, settling time, or any of the other analog signal conditioning challenges, yet allows for smaller form factor, faster time to market, and lower costs.

The ADAS3023 is factory calibrated and its operation is specified from −40°C to +85°C.

The EVAL-ADAS3023EDZ is a fully featured evaluation Kit for the ADAS3023. This board operates in stand alone mode or in conjunction with the Converter Evaluation and Development board, EVAL-CED1Z . When operated with the Converter Evaluation and Development board, software is provided enabling the user to perform detailed analysis of the ADC's performance. This software includes the technical note describing the operation and set up of the evaluation board in standalone operation or when operated with the Converter Evaluation and Development board.

This device is fairly good except one thing. In my case, I reset the ADC using digital port right after powering up, and write CFG register with the value 0xF00F. Most of times, it works good. But, some times, it doesn't. If I read the CFG register, when working good, the value is 0xF00F that I wrote into the CFG register. When the device is not working, the CFG register value is read to be garbage values and the converted values are also gargabes. The more serious problem is that once this happens, the RESET input has no effect, and the only way to recover from the situation is to power off, wait a little time, and powering on again. In my common sense, the RESET signal should bring the device into a reset state at any time and at any state. But, it doesn't. I grounded PD signal in order not to use power down mode. So, If you know the reason or method to resolve the problem, advise me. One more thing, the reserved bits in CFG register should be 1. In datasheet, it is described as don't care.

This product doesn't work in my case
I was not able to get the ADC working. Maybe it's a problem with the power up procedure. I'm not sure if a reset is required after powering the system. I can't find any information about this issue on the internet, probably because the device is quite new on the marked. Unfortunately, the support team seems to have no time to answer this simple question.I'm very disappointed about that.

Good performance with some complexity
It is a good A/D converter, but required power supply increase the final cost and the board complexity.

THis is a good high end compact DAQ board. The analog signal sampling matched our requirement.
