ANALOG DEVICES’ LOW-POWER MEMS ACCELEROMETER RECEIVES DESIGN NEWS MAGAZINE GOLDEN MOUSETRAP AWARD

- Enabling motion sensing in power- and space-constrained portable devices, ADI’s ADXL345 iMEMS® digital accelerometer wins in the motion control category.

Norwood, MA (04/19/2010) - Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal-processing applications, has received a Golden Mousetrap Award for Best Product from Design News magazine for the ADXL345 digital iMEMS® (integrated micro-electromechanical systems) accelerometer. The three-axis motion sensor was recognized in the Motion Control/Automation category for its ultra-low-power, high-resolution performance. The ADXL345 was developed specifically for space- and power-constrained portable devices including handheld medical and industrial devices, mobile gaming systems, smart phones, digital still cameras, and other battery-operated electronics.

For more than two decades, the Design News Awards Program has recognized engineering innovation and creativity in product design. This year, Golden Mousetrap awards were given in four major categories: Motion Control/Automation, Electronics, Hardware/Software, Materials/Fastening/Joining/Assembly, and 20 subcategories. A panel of editors gathered a record number of entries and, based on their expertise in each technology area, selected winners and finalists.

About the ADXL345 iMEMS Digital Accelerometer
The ADXL345 ultra-low-power digital accelerometer measures tilt, shock and acceleration. The device operates at a primary supply voltage down to 1.8 V and uses less than 25 uA of power, yet has a resolution high enough to detect inclination changes as small as 0.25 degrees. The ADXL345 has an output data range that scales from 0.1 Hz to 3.2 kHz, unlike competing devices, which have fixed 100-Hz, 400-Hz, or 1-kHz data rates. This allows portable system designers to build very responsive, real-time embedded systems. The accelerometer also features a 10,000-g shock rating, making it well-suited for applications such as hard-disk drive protection in personal computers.
