Isolation
Isolation is used to provide complete separation of two separate electronic circuits or systems. The techniques involved use either capacitive, inductive, or optical transmission of a signal across a barrier so that there is no 'wired' connection between them that conduct a current. This is important in medical systems so to protect patients, and is also very useful in high-power motors so that current flow in high-voltage windings can be communicated to low-voltage control circuits. Isolation is also useful for separating the
grounds of systems to improve noise performance.
