University Program Teaching Resources

Lectures and Labs for ADI Processors
Course materials for the teaching using the following processors are available on a site developed and maintained by Professor Michael Smith of the University of Calgary:

  • ADSP-BF53x (Blackfin)
  • ADSP-TSxxx (TigerSHARC)
  • ADSP-21xxx (SHARC)

Each course contains lecture notes and labs that professors can use as a starting point to develop their own curricula.

Blackfin Robotics Platform
The University of Massachusetts Lowell and ADI are collaborating on a new Blackfin "Handy Board" for robotics design plus a lab-based course and textbook by Prof. Fred Martin.

Textbooks
Many fine textbooks for teaching digital signal processing exist today. Three books that focus specifically on Analog Devices DSPs and processors are:

The Scientist and Engineer's Guide to Digital Signal Processing by Steven W. Smith, Ph.D., California Technical Publishing, ISBN 0-9660176-3-3 (1997)

Embedded Media Processing by David J. Katz and Rick Gentile of Analog Devices, Newnes , ISBN 0750679123 (2005)

Embedded Signal Processing with the Micro Signal Architecture by Woon-Seng Gan and Sen M. Kuo, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., ISBN 0-471-73841-7 (February 2007)

  • This textbook utilizes the LabVIEW Embedded Module for ADI Blackfin Processors to quickly prototype and deploy real-time DSP algorithms on the ADSP-BF533 and ADSP-BF537 processors. Learn more about this book at the publisher's site.
  • You can download companion material including LabVIEW simulations featured in the text on National Instruments' site.

Discounts on ADI Processor Workshops
Faculty and students of accredited universities are eligible for a 30% university discount on selected ADI workshops. Analog Devices training workshops on Blackfin, TigerSHARC and SHARC processors are offered by Kaztek Engineering Inc., a company that specializes in training. The schedule and locations, workshop overviews, syllabi and registration information are available on the ADI website.
