ADI Embedded Processor and DSP University Program
Q. What is the ADI Embedded Processor and DSP University Program?
A. Analog Devices offers a worldwide program to support the teaching of digital signal processing.
Through the program, Analog Devices assists universities in setting up and maintaining DSP labs for teaching and research.
Q. What are the benefits of the ADI Embedded Processor and DSP University Program?
A. Analog Devices offers universities:
- Discounts of up to 90% on hardware and software development tools
- Recommendations to assist in establishing labs at your school
- Teaching resources, including sample lectures and labs
- Technical assistance for professors via e-mail
Q. Does ADI offer educational discounts on development tools?
A. Yes. ADI offers universities discounts of up to 90% on hardware and software development tools.
Schools should apply for discounts using the University Discount Form.
Q. Does ADI offer educational discounts on training classes?
A. Yes. Faculty and students of accredited universities are eligible for a 30% university discount
on selected ADI workshops. Analog Devices 3.5 day training workshops on Blackfin, TigerSHARC and SHARC processors are offered by
Kaztek Engineering Inc., a company that specializes in training. The schedule and locations, workshop overviews, syllabi and
registration information are available on the ADI website.
Products (Hardware and Software) and Product Numbering
Q.Your EZ Kit's part number starts with ADDS, but the part number of the EZ Kit on the University program
starts with ADDU. The same nomenclature occurs with VDSP vs. VDSPU. What's the difference?
A. The products are exactly the same. Products sold through the Embedded Processor and DSP University discount program
use the "U" designation for ADI's internal accounting purposes.
Q.What is the difference between the PC FULL and PC FLOAT licenses for VisualDSP++?
A. VisualDSP++ offers both fixed and floating licenses. The difference between the fixed and
floating license is where the license is located.
- VisualDSP++ fixed license (VDSPU-XXXX-PC-FULL) is a single user license located on the individual's
computer.
- VisualDSP++ floating license (VDSPU-XXXX-PCFLOAT) is a single user license on an NT corporate server. The
users check in and check out the license on the server, but only one user can access the license at a time.
Q. What systems can run the PC FLOAT licenses for VisualDSP++?
A. The server must be NT, 2K or XP. A PC FLOAT license does not operate on a Unix server.
Q. What is included on a Test Drive?
A. The VisualDSP++ Test Drive includes everything the full version has to offer, but it expires
after 90-days. VisualDSP++ is an integrated development and debugging environment that delivers efficient project management, enabling
programmers to move easily between editing, building and debugging within a single interface. The Test Drive allows you to evaluate
VisualDSP++ for a limited time.
Q. Does software come with an EZ-KIT Lite?
A. Yes. Every ADI EZ-KIT Lite development board comes with VDSP++ software with limited on-chip
program memory space. The basic components that are shipped with VisualDSP++ are:
- Integrated Development Environment (IDE) - graphical interface for project management, allowing the
user to set project options, access the code generation tools, and launch the debugger.
- Debugger - allows the user to view the insides of the DSP and perform debug operations such as
read/write memory, read/write registers, load programs, run, step, halt, and more.
- Code Generation Tools - C compiler, assembler, runtime libraries and librarian, linker, simulator,
and PROM splitter.
- Example Projects - Both hardware and software are shipped with example projects and C and Assembly
source code that demonstrate various features of the tools and DSP.
Q. What is the difference between the software that comes with an EZ- KIT Lite and the software in a VDSP
package?
A. The EZ-KIT Lite serial number restricts the VisualDSP++ debugger to connect only to the EZ-KIT
Lite evaluation board running the debug monitor via the interface port (serial, parallel, USB). The EZ-KIT Lite does not include
emulator or simulator support.
