Ubiquitous Measurement and Control with LVDS Isolators

Robust reinforced isolation is required to protect analog front ends or external industrial backplane/communication ports for increased automation in harsh environments. However, today's high-speed serial interfaces for convertors and ASICs can be hard to isolate with sufficient bandwidth for precision measurement and control. Drop-in 600 Mbps LVDS digital isolators with iCoupler® technology allow isolation without any deserialization or extra design work and signal conditioning.

Conal Watterson is an applications engineer in the Interface and iCoupler® Digital Isolator Group, based in Limerick, Ireland. Conal joined ADI in 2010 as a PhD graduate from the University of Limerick and has worked on signal and power isolation with RS-485 and CAN transceivers, as well as M-LVDS and isolated LVDS. His current focus areas are high-speed interfaces for instrumentation, automation and motor control, and standards compliance for CAN, EMC and Isolation.
