Energy Meter IC Expertise Leveraged in New Integrated IC for LCD Meters

With 125 million units deployed in the field, Analog Devices introduces the ADE71xx/ADE75xx product family that simplifies energy meter design by providing all the features needed for an accurate, reliable, and fully functional energy meter with LCD display.

The well recognized accuracy and reliability of the Analog Devices energy measurement IC is complemented in the ADE71xx/ADE75xx family with new low power, low voltage, mixed-signal functions and an innovative system architecture. This combination enables key energy meter features such as tamper detection, battery management, real-time clock (RTC), LCD driver, temperature measurement, and an 8052 microcontroller to be integrated together while maintaining accuracy and reliability, improving low power operation, and providing an overall system cost advantage.

The ADE71xx/ADE75xx family integrates internal battery management and switching, simplifying the design of external battery circuitry for a 3.3 V part. The LCD driver incorporates a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and charge-pump devices, allowing easy contrast adjustment of the LCD display. Novel IC technology and architecture enables low voltage operation while maintaining low power consumption, thus increasing battery life. A temperature measurement with internal compensation schemes allows easy temperature compensation of critical features such as RTC drift or LCD voltages.
