AD7266/AD7265, DIFFERENTIAL/SINGLE-ENDED INPUT, DUAL 2 MSPS, 12-BIT, 3-CHANNEL SAR A/D CONVERTER EVALUATION TOOLS (EVAL-AD7266/65EDZ) USING EVAL-CED1Z

Introduction

The AD7266 and the AD7265, are dual, 12-bit, high speed, low power, successive approximation ADC's, that operate from a single power supply and features throughput rates up to 2MSPS, per on-chip ADC. Two complete ADC functions allow simultaneous sampling and conversion of two channels. The device contains two ADCs, each preceded by a 3-channel differential/6-channel single-ended multiplexer, and a low noise, wide bandwidth track-and-hold amplifier that can handle input frequencies in excess of 30 MHz. The evaluation tools for the and the AD7265 incorporate:

  • EVAL-AD7266EDZ/ EVAL-AD7266EDZ
  • EVAL-CED1Z Converter Evaluation and Development board

The Eval-AD7266/AD7265 board has enhanced functionality and operates in conjunction with EVAL-CED1Z. Software for controlling the AD7265/AD7266 is provided in conjunction with the EVAL-CED1Z. This software enables the user to perform detailed analysis of the ADC's performance. This analysis includes, AC (FFT) and DC (linearity, waveform and histogram plots) analysis. The software was developed with Labview and both the source code and the executable are available. Interfacing to the Eval-AD7266/AD7265 is through a 96-way connector. This 96-way connector is compatible with the EVAL-CED1Z. See below for the relevant documentation for the system including technical notes and software downloads.

Eval-AD7266/AD7265 also incorporates stand alone capability which can be selected by setting the appropriate link options. The board includes circuitry for converting a single ended signal to a differential signal and nine AD8022 dual op-amps. The board also includes an AD780, which is a pin programmable +2.5 V or +3 V ultra high precision bandgap reference, and a 7S04 inverter.
