EMC Compliant, Ultralow Noise 2A, 36V DC/DC uModule Regulator

  • MILPITAS, CA - March 4, 2009 - Linear Technology Corporation expands its family of ultralow noise DC/DC µModule™ regulators by introducing the LTM8032, an electromagnetic compliant (EMC) complete DC/DC regulator system-in-package. The LTM8032 includes the inductor, switching DC/DC controller, power switches, filters and all support components in a 9mm x 15mm x 2.82mm land grid array (LGA) package.

    The LTM8032 has been tested by an independent EMI test laboratory and is compliant with the radiated emissions requirements of EN55022 class B. The switching frequency of the LTM8032 can be adjusted from 200kHz to 2.4MHz with a resistor or can be synchronized to an external clock. The device operates from a wide input voltage range of 3.6V to 36V and regulates an output voltage from 0.8V to 10V at up to 2A. Applications for the LTM8032 include converting and regulating automotive battery voltage, distributed power supply, and high voltage industrial and avionics systems.

    The LTM8032 weighs only 1.2g and is tested for two temperature ranges satisfying -40°C to 125°C industrial and -55°C to 125°C military specifications. For higher output power, two or more LTM8032s can be paralleled for current sharing. To improve efficiency at light loads, the device automatically activates Burst Mode® operation. This keeps the output capacitor charged to the proper voltage with single cycle bursts of current followed by sleep periods, minimizing the input quiescent current.
