Thermal Management IC Simplifies the Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Today's Demanding and Complex Electronic Systems

In many of today's increasingly complex electronic systems, temperature, voltage, and fan speed are measured and controlled by numerous discrete sensors scattered throughout the system—making them inefficient and costly to design, build, and maintain.

Solution
The ADT7462 is a flexible systems monitor IC, suitable for use in a wide variety of applications. It can monitor temperature and voltage, control fan speed of the device, and also includes general digital pins, alert inputs and outputs—all housed in a small 32-lead LFCSP package.

In addition to measuring ambient temperature, the device can monitor the temperature in up to three remote locations. Using this information, the ADT7462 monitors four fans to control and manage temperature. The enhanced acoustics and dynamic TMIN features allow for very quiet fan operation in acoustically sensitive applications. The device monitors the speed of up to eight fans, and the alert output indicates when a fan has stalled and fan speed has fallen below the programmed limit.

The ADT7462 integrates additional functionality to simplify designs without compromising battery power. It can monitor up to 13 voltages including a dedicated VBATT input to measure coin cell batteries without draining the battery itself. The chassis intrusion input can be used to detect whether a system chassis has been interfered with—even if the system is powered off.
