Highly Efficient and Tiny Power IC Products Extend Battery Life and Functionality of Portable Handheld Devices

T he ADP2102, a low quiescent current step-down dc-to-dc converter, and the ADP1653, a white LED flash driver, are power management ICs optimized for use in portable handheld applications such as wireless handsets, digital still cameras, and more. These two devices dramatically extend battery life with efficiency ratings of up to 95% in conjunction with a power saving mode that reduces the switching frequency under light load conditions. In addition, they offer overvoltage/undervoltage lockout and soft-start that help reduce or eliminate the harmful effects of deep battery discharge or current overshoot during startup. The ADP1653 offers a unique Tx masking feature that dynamically reduces the current of the flash LED in less than 50 µs when the current of the amplifier bursts in RF transmission. The added performance and functionality of these devices is accomplished in some of the smallest packages available today. The ADP2102 is available in a compact 3 mm × 3 mm LFCSP or 1.375 mm × 1.675 mm WLCSP; the ADP1653 is offered in a 3 mm × 3 mm LFCSP.
