IEC 60601-1-Compliant Digital Isolators with iCoupler Technology
iCoupler isolation technology combines chip-scale microtransformer technology with analog and mixed-signal circuits for substantial improvements in cost, size, performance, power, reliability, and ease of use as compared to traditional optocouplers. In addition to faster data rates and greater reliability, iCoupler digital isolators offer a wide array of integrated features and functions including I2C bidirectional data paths, isolated power, data converters, RS-232 and RS-485 transceivers, and gate drivers.
iCoupler products achieve medical grade insulation through the use of a 20 µm thick polyimide insulation layer between two transformer coils. Signals are transmitted across the insulation using an encode/decode scheme that achieves data rates in excess of 90 Mbps with low propagation delays while also being able to maintain dc correctness. 100% production testing at high voltages ensures that iCoupler insulation complies with IEC 60601-1 requirements.
The ADuM220x, ADuM225x, and ADuM240x iCoupler digital isolators are ideally suited for medical applications that require IEC 60601-1-certified isolation to protect patients and equipment. These products are available in wide-body, surface-mount packages with 8 mm creepage and clearance distances, certified per IEC 60601-1.

Switches and Multiplexers Offer Industry-Leading Performance in Small Packaging
Line-powered ECG applications require low RON, dual-supply operation switches in small packages. The ADG1411 is a ±15 V, 4 × SPST switch, which offers RON of 1.5 Ω and RON flatness of 0.28 Ω over the full signal range. The ADG1411 is available in 4 mm × 4 mm LFCSP packages as well as TSSOP packages. At ±5 V operation, the ADG619 SPDT switch offers low RON in an 8-lead SOT-23 package.
Battery-operated medical applications such as EEG or ECG require low voltage switches and multiplexers that offer high performance, a small form factor, and very low power consumption. The ADG801 is a 1.8 V to 5.5 V single-supply operation SPST switch with 0.25 Ω RON in a 6-lead SOT-23 package with low power consumption and 400 mA current carrying capability. The ADG738 is a singlesupply low voltage 8:1 multiplexer with 3-wire SPI interface. The ADG738 offers 2.5 Ω RON, 0.75 Ω RON flatness, and 100 pA leakage current. It is available in a 16-lead TSSOP package.
